What You Told Us — Member Survey Results

A big thank-you to everyone who completed our recent member survey! We had 64 responses, giving us a great look at what you enjoy most about playing pickleball, what works well, and where we can keep improving. Your input really helps shape how we plan court times, events, and future activities.

How often do you play?

You’re an active bunch! Most of you (68%) play between two and four times per week, whether it’s at the DoubleTree, other clubs, or local courts. A few (12%) play once a week, while some (19%) are on court more than four times — proof that pickleball passion runs deep..

When do you like to play?

In winter, late mornings (10am–12pm) and early afternoons (12–2pm) came out on top for both weekends and weekdays. In summer, more of you like to beat the heat with early morning play (8–10 am), though late mornings remain a close favorite. This mix gives us helpful guidance as we set up sessions that fit around everyone’s schedules — and the weather!

Game formats and ratings

Most of you — 64% — prefer rated sessions while 29% of you prefer unrated play. A small number (6%) have no preference. For round robins, over half of you (53%) said you like to play with random partners each game while 26% like the “winners move up, losers move down” structure that keeps things moving and competitive in a light-hearted way.

When it comes to rating systems, opinions were varied. Most of you (76%) preferred to have some form of rating system with 43% preferring DUPR and 34% preferring self rating. Some of you (19%) preferred no rating system..

Half of you (51%) would like scores reported to DUPR once or twice a month, while 28% of you prefer to never have scores reported. Some of you (12%) would like scores reported every session!

The takeaway? You value flexibility — keeping play fair and fun without letting ratings take over the joy of the game.

Open play and special events

A majority (61%) said you’d join open play sessions where all skill levels can mix.

Our Club MLP team competitions and “Pickleball with a Twist” events are popular. Seventy-one per cent of you said you were likely or very likely to attend an MLP event while almost three quarters of you (73%) said the same for ‘Pickleball with a Twist.’

And it’s clear you love a good social! Seventy-nine per cent of you said you’d attend a Summer Social, and 74% are excited for a Holiday Party. Brunches, hikes, wine tastings, and trivia nights also scored well — all showing that, for many of us, the friendships off the court are just as important as the rallies on it.

How are we doing?

The best news of all: 93% of you said you’re satisfied or very satisfied with your Club membership. Many of your comments praised the friendly, welcoming atmosphere and the dedication of the volunteer board. Some of you asked for more clinics, tournaments, and opportunities for lower-rated players to participate in DUPR games — helpful ideas we’ll definitely keep in mind.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts and ideas. The Board will be reviewing and discussing the results at the next Board meeting in November. In the meantime, keep sending us your feedback. We hope to strike the right balance between competitive play and casual fun — and will continue to strive to make Redwood Pickleball Club a place where everyone feels welcome, challenged, and connected.

See you on the courts!
