Father's Day Pickleball and Poker Event

Father’s Day Pickleball & Poker is coming!

What happens when you mix pickleball, poker, competition, and a bunch of fun people together? Come find out. 😄

Here’s the deal:

🏓 Win a match = get 2 cards

🏓 Lose a match = still get 1 card (because we’re nice like that 😉)

At the end of the event, everyone puts together their best poker hand — and the player with the best hand takes home the glory! ♣️♦️♥️♠️

So even if your dink game is off… your poker luck might still save the day. 😂

Sign up on Pickleheads on Monday June 15.

Frankie's Coaching Clinic

January Clinic - The Twoey

This month’s clinic will focus on the two-handed backhand - the fastest growing stroke in both men’s and women’s pickleball.

The two-handed backhand (“The Twoey”) is becoming an increasingly popular stroke in pickleball, offering players a useful option for both offense and defense. Because it’s a newer technique for many players, we’ll introduce it step-by-step so everyone can try it at their own pace. Although the mechanics are different from a traditional backhand, the motion is actually quite compact and, once comfortable, can become a very reliable part of your game.

If you’re interested in giving the Twoey a real try, you’ll get the most benefit by practicing it consistently for several weeks. That said, this clinic is simply an opportunity to explore the stroke—there’s no pressure to fully adopt it unless you decide it’s a good fit for your playing style.

If you’re curious, open to learning something new, and willing to practice, we’d love to have you join us.

Sign-up will be via Pickleheads.

The clinic is free, except for the court cost ($5.50 per person, payable to Keating).

As always, remember to play safe with protective eyewear and adequate court shoes.

2025 Secret Santa

Secret Santa is Back!

What is Secret Santa?
Sonoma County’s Secret Santa is a nonprofit program that brings holiday cheer to local children, teens, adults, and seniors who could use a little extra support. Participants can claim a “Heart Tag,” which represents a real person in our community and a holiday wish we can help make come true.

Last year, our Club filled all 30 of our Heart Tags—an incredible show of generosity. This year, we’re raising the bar and aiming for 40.

Here’s how we can come together and show what Playing with a Purpose really means:

Our Club will focus on fulfilling Heart Tags for older adults many of whom have requested warm items like throws and sweaters as well as gift cards.

Joanne will pick up the Heart Tags for us and distribute them to interested members at weekend play. Please wrap your gift, attach the Heart Tag so it’s visible, and return it to Joanne by Friday December 19.. You can also bring it to the Holiday Party on December 19. If wrapping isn't your thing, Joanne is happy to take care of that part for you.

You’re also welcome to team up with other members to fulfill a Heart Tag together—always more fun that way.

If you’d prefer to donate funds—either instead of a gift or in addition to one—you can do that here.

Questions? Reach out directly to Joanne Trifoso, who is coordinating our Secret Santa efforts.

With 40 hearts to fill, every contribution helps make the holidays a little brighter for Sonoma County families. Play—and give—with purpose. 🎁💕

If you’d like to help, just bring your non-perishable food items (see list below) to weekend play — a board member will be there to collect them. To donate funds, click here.

MLP Event on Saturday, September 13

Our next MLP (Minor League Pickleball) event is set for Saturday, September 13—and this one will be a little different!

  • Bucket 3: DUPR 3.0+

Each team includes:

To keep things balanced, no team has a combined DUPR higher than 12.5.

Here are the teams (combined DUPR ratings in brackets):

  • Team A: Kyle, Victoria, Karen W., Tony (11.13)

  • Team B: Sebastian, Karin K., Alicia, Mary Jo (11.61)

Frank’s Coaching Corner - February Pickleball Clinic

Our next pickleball clinic will be on Thursday Feb 20 from 2pm to 4pm at the Doubletree. This clinic will focus on these questions:

  • Where should I be?

  • How do I get there?

  • What do I do when I’m there?

The Pickleball Court is a large rectangle ( 44’ x 20’ ) divided into smaller rectangles and angles.  Your court movements and shots should reflect that! And since we always play with a partner, your movements should be a coordinated “dance”. 💃🏻

Your main goals should be to push your opponents back or off the court to make it harder for them to move or reduce their reaction time.

This clinic will have a game plan much like the last one:
1. Goals and strategy
2. Set up and Walk Through
3. Hitting % shots
4. Live action and analysis
5. Q & A
6. Let’s Play Pickleball

Remember last clinic?  Keep your knees bent and your weight down at all times!!  👍👍

This session will be suitable for intermediate players (2.5 to 3.2). Sign-up will be via Pickleheads on Feb 6, and clinics will be free, except for the court cost ($5 per person, payable to Keating). We will need either 8 or 12 players. As always, remember to play safe with protective eyewear and adequate court shoes.

Teams should have a combined DUPR rating of about 12 (11.7 to 12.3 max) on the day of sign-up.

If we get six teams, you can expect to be on the courts for about five to six hours, so please plan accordingly.

The cost is $25 per player, payable via Venmo or Zelle to Club Treasurer, Keating Vogel.
